About me
Frances Fort has been practicing law in California since 1995. She has an undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley in Applied Mathematics.
She graduated cum laude from UC Law, San Francisco (formerly University of California, Hastings College of Law) where she was elected to the Thurston Honor Society and the Order of the Coif.
Following graduation from law school, Frances clerked at the San Francisco Superior Court for two years. She then worked for a small San Francisco law firm focusing on public sector labor law. After the birth of their son in 1999, Frances and her husband Joe moved to Sacramento where she worked for the California legislature, first as a consultant for the Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment, and then on the personal staff of then-Assemblymember Darrell Steinberg.
From 2004 until 2017, Frances had her own business working on complex mediations and arbitrations with JAMS neutrals, where she co-mediated cases and drafted countless arbitration opinions.
Following the deaths of her father and her uncle, Frances personally realized the importance of proper planning around death and incapacity. In 2018, Frances obtained Certification from California’s Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) in Estate Planning. From 2018 until 2023, Frances built her Estate Planning and Probate practice while working in the Sacramento office of the law firm of Damrell Nelson Schrimp Pallios & Silva.
She opened the Law Office of Frances Fort in January 2023, and continues to provide quality estate planning, trust administration and probate services to clients in need.
From 2018 to 2024, Frances also served as a hearing officer and arbitrator for California Hearing Officers, LLP, where she conducted certification review hearings related to involuntary mental health holds, as well as nuisance hearings, licensing appeals and arbitrations under local and state law.
When she is not practicing law, Frances enjoys spending time with her family, rock climbing with her friends, playing with her dog and swimming.
